NIgeria’s favourite artists Asake and Olamide collaborated on two of the biggest songs currently riding the afrobeats waves.
It is no surprise that one of the songs, Amapiano – released to YouTube on 24 May 2023 – approximately two weeks ago has already racked up 4.5 million views.
What “Amapiano” means?
Amapiano – which means “the pianos” in South Africa’s Zulu language – is a type of South African music genre that emerged in the mid-2010s and became increasingly popularised in recent times by South African artists such as, Uncle Waffles, Melo and Sleazy, and Nigerian artists such as Falz, Ninola, Asake and many more.
What is the meaning in the song?
Asake is talking mainly about his music and the use of ampaino which “is a big vibe” right now. He brags how “Overseas dey wan chop me like suya” and “My gbedu shut down Southy Jamo” due to his ampiano-inspired hit songs including this one.
