Tems took home Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Performance at the Grammys 2023, making her first the Naija homegrown talent to win the award.

The beautiful 27 year old won the award alongside Future and Drake for the rap music wait for you. She tweeted; “What God has done for me, I can’t even speak. All the glory really belongs to Him.

“To everyone that has been supporting me still, through everything, please know I don’t take it for granted. I truly appreciate it. The love has been too too much. Thank you so much Rebel Gang. We up very soon.”

It comes around four years since she debuted her first self-produced single, Mr Rebel, and attracted a huge fan base who now call themselves Rebel Gang. Then some two years later gained global stardom with Afrobeats legend Wizkid on the track, Essence.

While Tems, real name Temilade Openiyi is thought to be the first homegrown Nigerian artist to win for her country, British born Nigerian legend Sade won many Grammys in her hey day.

Elsewhere, South Africans Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode took the award for Best Global Music Performance for their collaboration Bayethe.
